Pumpkin Apple Chutney Bread

Rich and moist, Pumpkin Apple Chutney Bread is a delicious twist to traditional Pumpkin Bread. Serve warm with whipped cream cheese.

Serves 6


  • 1 3/4 cup unbleached flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/3rd cup softened butter
  • 2/3rd cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree
  • 2/3 cup Apple Ginger Chutney - large pieces chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts


In a bowl combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice. In a large bowl mix the butter, brown sugar, add the eggs and combine the mixture well. Stir in the buttermilk, pumpkin puree and 2/3 cup of chutney, combining the mixture well, add the flour mixture, the walnuts and stir until just combined. Spoon into a greased loaf pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until skewer comes out clean. Let cool in pan. Serve warm with cream cheese and additional chutney if desired.
